Hi I'm Spencer Lee

I'm from Alaska, and I have a beautiful wife and two boys. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Alaska, but I currently live in Virgina. I married my best friend just over three years ago after serving two years as a missionary in Thailand. We now have two little boys that keep us on our toes. My little family is the core of my life. There's nothing like love at home. I'm a full time student at Southern Virginia University, majoring in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I have one more year of undergraduate schooling, then I plan on entering medical school. I'm currently a reservist in the US Navy, and I plan on making a career as a navy doctor.

Why I am a Mormon

I feel blessed that I was raised in an LDS home. I went to church with my family my whole life where I learned the basics of the gospel of Jesus Christ. At a young age I could feel that obedience to the commandments that I learned about at home and at church made me feel good, but it wasn't until I was a teenager that I actually prayed to know for myself if what I had been taught was true. It was right after I had attended the baptism of a girl from my school. She was an inspiration to me as I was trying to decide how I wanted to live my life as a teenager. The feeling I had as I prayed that day really motivated me to follow the example of Jesus Christ at a young age. I am eternally grateful for that moment, a gift from my Father in Heaven.

How I live my faith

How I live my faith starts with my personal relationship with my Savior and my Father in Heaven. By the resotoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ through the prophet Jospeh Smith, I have come to gain a personal testimony that I am a child of God. I feel His love through the influence of the Holy Ghost when I choose to obey the commandments and make and keep sacred covenants. I am far from perfect, but I have faith and hope in the atonement of Jesus Christ. For me, repentance is an active part of life as I try to improve and progress through life. My personal relationship with my Savior and Father in Heaven motivate me to love and respect my wife and nurture our relationship. By the power of the Holy Priesthood, we were sealed together for time and all eternity. There is nothing more important in my life than her. I chose to be with her forever. Our love for eachother naturally motivates us to teach our children correct principles and provide for them opportunities to gain a testimony of truth for themselves. Our family receives a lot of strength and support from our extended family and from our ward (church) family. Church is not only a place to teach and learn gospel principles, but also a place where we have found great friends. I know that if I were ever in a situation where I needed help, I have hundreds of people to fall back on, and I know they would do so willingly. We look after each other by volunteering our time to serve in callings in the different programs of the church. My current calling is a counselor in the Sunday School Presidency. I assist the Sunday School President in making sure that there are teachers every week for the various Sunday School classes. Beyond my church calling I find time to serve my community in a number of ways. I volunteer regularly at a local free clinic. I also help organize and participate in a number of service projects every year such as highway clean-up parties as a member of the local Lions Club organization. I also serve my country as a Navy reservist in whatever capacity I am neede.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Spencer Lee
The Word of Wisdom is a modern-day revelation about how we should take care of our bodies, and promises blessings to those who faithfully follow the instructions given by the Lord. The Word of Wisdom specifically prohibits the use of tobacco products and consumption of alcohol, coffee, and tea. Beyond the "do nots," the Word of Wisdom encourages us to eat good foods like whole grains, fruits and vegetables and moderate ammounts of meat as well as stressing the importance of good sleeping habbits. The health benefits of such a lifestyle are easily recognized by people who live by the Word of Wisdom, but the blessings are more than just physical. Our bodies are a tremendous gift from God, and by taking care of them we are showing respect to our Creator. By taking care of our bodies, the Holy Ghost can more easily dwell within us and guide us to safety in both a physical and spiritual sense, for He "cannot dwell in unholy temples."
