Hi I'm Mateus

About Me

I am a 27 years-old guy that loves life and loves to work hard. I have been married since June 2005 and we have a child who was born in February 2010. We will have a girl in June 2011. I love my family!

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member since 18 June 2000. I am the only member in my family. I joined the Church because I felt that God lives and talks to us. The Church teaches that we have a living prophet and he helps us along the journey called mortal life. I attended the seminary classes for the youth in my hometown in Fortaleza in order to be able to play some soccer after the class(we could only play if you attended the class, even if you were a visitor) but I learned a lot in those classes and started going every night. I got baptized on the first Sunday I went to the meetings. That decision I made changed my life and has also made me a very happy person.

How I live my faith

After I joined the Church I have served as a full-time missionary in Maceio Brazil and I have shared my testimony to thousands of people in that region. I study and take a lot of religion classes at BYU and I teach a class of Institute in Portuguese in Orem, Utah. I also teach in my Elders Quorum every month. I love to teach the gospel because it helps me to learn the gospel. I am training to be a full time Seminary/Institute teacher. I love the youth of the Church and I have the strongest desire to serve them in the time I have here on the earth.

What is the First Vision?

Mateus
The first Vision is one of the key events in the history of the Church. It happened in 1820 when the 14-year-old boy Joseph Smith was very confused about which church he should join; he searched but never had asked of God. One day when he was studying the bible he read James 1:5 that says that if someone needs directions or answers he should ask of God because he is the one that knows everything. He did as that scripture taught and went into a grove in the early morning of a spring day of that year 1820 and when he was praying he saw God and Jesus Christ, he conversed with them and was called to be a prophet. That vision was the beginning of the Restoration of the Church on theses last days. Show more Show less
