Hi I'm Lizzie J.

I played soccer. I'm a college student. I'm married. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi! I am Lizzie! I am a senior college student studying history and sociology. I moved away from college so I am in a town that I am not really familiar with. I love to play soccer and I even get to work as coach! In my free time I love to blog, play board games and craft. I am also currently interested in cooking. I am newly married. My husband and I enjoy all sorts of activities with each other. We both enjoy photography, watching movies and hiking. We also love to eat!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I want to live with my family forever and this church brings me so much happiness. When I went away to college I tried so hard to fit in with my fellow students yet at the same time, I also wanted to live my religion. I would read my scriptures in my dorm room every night and my roommate would often make fun of me. I tried so hard to fit in with them, trying to do what they wanted me to do while still living my standards. I realized that I had to make a decision and that I could not live both lives. I would have either decided to live the religion that I was raised with, or I could follow the crowd. I decided to pray about it and to re-read the Book of Mormon. The more I prayed and read my scriptures, the more I noticed that I was much happier when I was living what I knew to be true, which is this gospel. I know that the Lord answered my prayer. While I ended up not staying friends with my roommates, I found lifelong friends who did not pressure me to do something I did not want to do.

How I live my faith

My husband and I get to work with the children of the Church. Specifically we have the opportunity to teach 6-8 year old children about the gospel. It is really a fun and special age to teach in our Church. There minds are so open and they are so willing to learn. I also currently planning a trip for the teenage girls in our area. They have the chance to go to a special camp ground that is owned by our Church. They get to learn all about how to survive in the wilderness. In addition they also get to learn about how to get closer to our Heavenly Father. It is amazing to work with these girls. They already so much about what our Heavenly Father wants for them, they are an amazing examples for me of how great this next generation is. Finally I participate in our church by serving as a visiting teacher. In being a visiting teacher, I am assigned to help out and watch over different women in my area. I am there to help them out in any necessary way and also to be there as a friend.

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven't we always had the Bible?

Lizzie J.
In order for there even to be a restoration, there needed to be a apostasy, where the true gospel was taken from this earth. We believe that there was an apostasy, when the true church became corrupt and was eventually taken away from the world. With the Restoration of the Gospel there came the Church organization that is the same as was in existent in the times of Jesus Christ. We believe that there is a current Prophet who has the ability to receive revelation from our Lord, just like the prophets of old. We also believe that there was a need to restore the keys of Priesthood to this earth, just like in the times of old. Finally with the restoration of the Church came the translation of the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ and is another account of the true gospel that was existent at the time of Christ. Show more Show less

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Lizzie J.
While we do a lot to help other Mormons, we do help other people as well. We bring aid to literally every disaster, both man-made and natural, that occurs in the current day. A good example would be when Haiti had a horrific earthquake this past year. Our Church immediately sent aid to the people. We even distributed a new type of water bottle, that not only gave people a bottle of clean water, but hundreds of bottles in the same bottle, with a new type of filtration system that allows them to refill this bottle with any water and it will be made clean. We have a place called welfare square, in which individuals are able to donate their time to making all sorts of aid for others. We can food, make clothes and many other types of aid. Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Lizzie J.
In the current day people of the LDS Church, or the Mormons, do not practice polygamy. The people who are polygamist today are not actually part of this religion. They call themselves the FLDS Church, but are in no way affiliated with this church. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

Lizzie J.
The Book of Mormon is another testament of the Lord Jesus Christ. Many people have heard of the Bible. The Book of Mormon is similar to the Bible. The writings start around the same time that the Old Testament ends. The Book of Mormon takes place in the the Americas. Just like the Bible, the Book of Mormon has stories, prophets and commandments. It also has an important account of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
