Hi I'm Katherine Helen

I am a mother of four and a part-time hula dance instructor.

About Me

I am a stay at home mom with four children. I have been happily married to my best friend for over ten years. I am one of seven children. Six of us are married with one who has divorced. My parents have been married for 43 years and have twenty grand children and one great grandchild. My siblings and I all get along great and love family get togethers. I LOVE dance and teach hula classes part-time to adults and children. My husband is Hawaiian and from the island of Moloka'i. I try to stay healthy by working out and eating right. However I also love junk food and relaxing; which is the biggest reason I work out...because somehow in my mind it all balances out :) I love home improvement projects, rearranging the house and yard work, but not so much cooking. Although I think I would like cooking if someone else cleaned up as I went along:) I see my cup half full if not overflowing and I use humor in most all situations. I feel I am pretty enthusiastic about life and it just feels good to smile. I find it easy to love my neighbor and feel closer to Heavenly Father as I serve others.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Latter-Day-Saints family and grew up surrounded by friends at church that were my second family. As a teenager I remember when I first questioned why I was a Mormon. The answer at that point was in the people. I loved the examples of the Mormons around me and I thought, "If all these people are going to the same place after this life, then I want to be there with them." And that was enough at that time. As I've grown and learned more about our Savior, Jesus Christ, I have found a confirmation in the teachings of my youth. Those teachings and my current study of the gospel bring me peace. I feel like I have no questions as to where I came from, why I am here, or where I am going. Because of that peace I have never looked outside of this church for answers.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to follow Christ's example. And when I fall short of that I try to say sorry and make it right as soon as possible. I do not look to be offended and let things that could offend me roll off my shoulders as I know Christ would think it silly to hold offense. In the church itself I live my faith by going to church for 3 hours every Sunday. In the first hour I sit with my family and I renew my baptismal covenants by taking the Sacrament and then listen to the members who have prepared talks. Once in a while I am asked to give a talk. The next 2 hours I listen and participate in classroom discussions. During those last two hours my children enjoy class and singing time in their own rooms. Each month I do "Visiting Teaching" with another sister (we call eachother "brother" and "sister".) Visiting Teaching is where we have been asked to visit a few sisters to see how they are doing and see if they have any needs and share a short message. Mostly we visit and become better friends. I also have sisters that visit me monthly. Likewise my husband has “Home Teaching” partners who go out and visit families. And our home teachers come monthly. We look forward to their visits and have put them to work when we needed a hand. I am comforted knowing we look out for each other as Christ would have us. Other than that, I just try my best to be my best. I feel that my testimony of Christ and His gospel is part of me. There is a song that says, "I want to be a window to His love, so when you look at me you will see Him." That is my goal in how I live my faith; to live so that my life relects the light of our Savior. I am not perfect., but it is still my goal.
