Hi I'm Carter

I'm a scenic designer. I'm recent college graduate. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 24 year-old undergrad. After exploring a lot of different majors I have settled down into one of my greatest passions: Theatre. My official major is Theatre Arts Studies with an emphasis in Scenic Design. I plan to go on to graduate school and I hope to one day design scenery for a regional theatre company or teach scenic design at a university somewhere. Right now I'm working part-time as a craftsperson in the BYU costume shop. Before that I worked three years as a carpenter, building scenery for plays. I also work as a TA for a theatre production class. I love acting, but I am also passionate about art (I'm into graphic design and desktop publishing), music (I play the piano), literature (my favorite authors are Mark Twain and Haven Kimmel) and... I also like history. I collect glasses and nametags. I am a Utah native, but I also lived in Missouri and Kansas for two years as a missionary for the church.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church. My family tree goes straight back to the Mormon pioneers. It's always been a very important part of my life. However, that is not the reason I am a Mormon. I am a Mormon because I have found that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only real source of lasting happiness. As I have grown older and gone off to college I have had the opportunity to explore the world and to explore myself. My eyes have been opened to a lot of things and a lot of ideas, and through this exploration I have found a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Through a lot of soul searching I have found that the Mormon church is the greatest source of truth and happiness I could ever hope to find. It gives color and meaning to my life in so many ways. I have tried to find that in other places, but it just isn't the same.

How I live my faith

Because I go to a school with a large Mormon population, I get to worship with a congregation made up of college students. I am assigned to be a teacher, which is something I love very much. I get so much out of teaching others, and somehow it seems like the lesson I'm assigned to teach is always directed right at me. I also love getting to know the members of my class and being able to share what I believe with them as we all learn together.

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Carter
It is true. After Jesus Christ was crucified and resurrected he appeared to the people living in North America. God loves his children everywhere, all over the world, and he appeared to his followers living in the Americas to teach them his gospel and organize his church, just as he had done in the Middle East. This event was recorded by ancient American prophets and it can be found in the Book of Mormon. This means so much to me because it shows the infinite love of God and the importance of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with people all over the world. Show more Show less
