Hi I'm Robert

I study how people learn at school. I teach my kids how to learn at home. The gospel teaches me how to live. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy learning and helping others ignite their desire to learn as well. I am a graduate student at ASU learning more about how technology can be used to help us learn better, faster, and more efficiently. At the same time I am a husband and a father of three kids under the age of 8 and one on the way. My life is constantly a balancing act between all the roles that I fill. As a husband I try to find ways to continually court my wife through service and fun dates. As a father I enjoy teaching my kids and making up stories about life, school and nonsense. As a provider for my family I try keep food on the table and the bills paid. As a student I try to meet the many research and development deadlines that never seem to end. As an individual I enjoy exploring new ideas and bringing people together to create, innovate and learn.

Why I am a Mormon

A few nights ago I was making up a story to help my kids understand the importance of Jesus Christ and his role in our lives when I was inspired to talk about a little boy who I called Pete. The story related how Pete loved playing with a wooden pirate ship and one day it broke because of Pete's neglecting to put it away. After Pete tried all he could to fix the ship, he couldn't put it together with out the write tools. When Pete's dad got home he helped Pete find the tools he needed to fix the ship. In my life I have broken things, messed up and needed help to fix it. Despite my best efforts and trying all I can think of, I cannot fix it by myself. Through the savior and his church I am able to find to tools to fix my life and make more of my life than I can by myself. I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I enjoy teaching and learning. Each morning I get to spend time reading the scriptures and teaching my kids about their Father in Heaven who loves them. We make up stories, we practice keeping the commandments, we ask questions of each other and we support each other. My home is a place where my family and I feel safe from the world. Each week on Mondays we sing, play games and share with my kids the plan that their Heavenly Father has for them. I try to teach by example, but when I make a mistake I let my kids know that I am sorry and ask their forgiveness. As a Mormon, my believes and values emphasis the importance of making a home a safe place from the world.
