Hi I'm Janis Elinor

About Me

My husband and I are the parents of six children and the grandparents of twenty. My family and I immigrated to America and became citizens in September 2001. We were with the first group of people to take the citizenship oath after the terrorist attack of 9/11. We have all appreciated being part of America. I have horses and enjoy trail riding and carriage driving. I love to cook and nothing pleases me more than my adult children coming home and requesting their favorites from my kitchen.

Why I am a Mormon

I envied my sister and her dedication to her religion so one night I said a prayer asking Heavenly Father to tell me how He wanted to be worshipped and understood. The next thing I know I am at a drive in movie and my date has turned the volume down so that he can tell me all about his church and why he is a Mormon. I didn't listen very hard until he told me that he knew without any doubt that Jesus Christ was alive and deeply interested in each of us. He said that the Savior's Church had been restored to the earth and that Jesus was guiding and directing it. I felt in my heart the truth of what he was saying and knew I would have to find out for myself. I read the Book of Mormon, I read other books and spoke with the missionaries. I prayed about it and knew that indeed it was true that the Savior had appeared to Joseph Smith and restored the ancient church to the earth. I realized that anyone who strived to know the Savior would be blessed but that being a member of the Mormon Church would be an answer to my prayer. And that date that ruined the movie? I married him for all eternity in the temple a year later.

How I live my faith

I teach the adult Sunday School class. My students all study the scriptures daily and so our classes are lively discussions of important doctrines and saving truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I also supervise the early morning seminary classes. These are classes for all Mormon high school students that are held before school begins. The classes are about an hour long, often starting at 6:00 a.m. The students study the scriptures every day for the four years of high school. Once a year I host a Scripture Mastery Day for about sixty students in my area to gather together and compete in games. The last game of the day is a scripture chase where the students compete to see who can find a particular scripture the fastest. Its a very fun day.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Janis Elinor
The Mormon temple services are deeply spiritual and sacred, like all weddings everywhere. The activities in the temple are all leading to the sealing of a man and a woman for not only time but for all eternity. Those that are ready to make such a total committment have proven themselves worthy of it. I waited a year after I was baptized a member to seek a temple recommend. I learned the doctrines and sought to know the Savior and understand His atonement. I am glad I felt prepared and able to understand my eternal marriage to my sweetheart. Show more Show less
