Hi I'm Jonathan Alan

I grew up in Alabama but have traveled all over the world. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I served in the military and have lived and traveled around the world. I love to read and spend time with my family. I recently received my graduate degree.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up, religion was important in my home. My father was a Southern Baptist minister/pastor. After joining the military, I left religion because I was conflicted about many things within the Baptist belief. I could not find anyone who could answer any of my questions so I quit going to church. After some years I joined the Church of Christ. I was happy for a while but I began to feel the same questions and feelings of years past. I was still unable to find any answers. During this time, while I was attending college my wife and I were struggling with the church we attended. I told her that I did not want to attend the Church of Christ anymore. These problems weighed were so heavy on my heart that I could not sleep for about two weeks. It was one of the most intense times that I have ever experienced. It was during this time that my wife suggested that we call our neighbors, members of the Church, and talk with them. We had been watching them and saw that they lived the Gospel daily. They, along with the missionaries, were able to answer the questions that were burdening me. I have never felt such an overwhelming sense of peace and joy as I have since I have joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints. I feel that I understand my purpose in life and why I have had to endure different struggles throughout my life. Heavenly Father was preparing my heart to receive the restored Gospel.

How I live my faith

I recently moved to another part of the state and I am attending graduate school. I try to take advantage of opportunities to spread the Gospel as they become available. In one Ward, I was a Ward Missionary and taught the Gospel Essentials class. It was extremely rewarding and I really felt the Spirit as taught this class. In my last Ward I served as the secretary for the men's group, which meets both temporal and Spirital needs of the church members and the community. In my current Branch, I serve as the mission leader. I travel around the area with the area missionaries. I really enjoy meeting new people and helping them understand God's plan for their lives.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Jonathan Alan
No, Mormons do not worship Joseph Smith. In the same way we revere Biblical prophets such as Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Elijah, we revere Joseph Smith because he is a prophet of God. He was chosen by God to restore the Gospel because men had corrupted it. He was also the man that God chose to lead the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In addition, he translated the Book of Mormon, he was ridiculed, persecuted and martyred for his faith. Show more Show less
