Hi I'm Ninna

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Denmark but have lived in America for almost 19 years.

About Me

I am a "stay-at-home" mother of 6 children 19, 17, 15, 13, 10 and 9 years old, who doesn't seem to stay at home very much. I seem to be running to church activities, clogging, piano lessons etc. all day long. I love to do computer scrapbooking, family history and help in my children's school. I love to bake, crochet, go on camping trips with my family visiting National Parks and Monuments. Right now my oldest son is serving as a missionary in Canada.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family that were members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. My parents had been baptized 9 years before I was born. I loved growing up with the values that they had accepted and tried to live. As I got older I had to find out for myself that it was true and not just be a member because that is what my family believed. I read the scriptures, prayed and asked for answers and confirmation that it was true and I slowly but surely received the peaceful feeling and a joyful assurance that it is all true. I feel happy when I live the principles that I have learned in the church.

How I live my faith

I love going to church every Sunday with my family. At the moment I serve as a counselor to the Relief Society President which is the women's organization at church. Relief Society is the largest women's organization in the world. I love to work with the sisters in my area and get to know them and see how I can serve them. In Relief Society we learn how to become disciples of Jesus Christ and how to do that while being a wife and mother and a friend. There is a group of Relief Society sisters pretty much ANYWHERE in the world. If we move from one place to another there will always be sisters in the new area ready to help and support you in any way they can. I love Relief Society. It is great to see how the values of the gospel of Jesus Christ and in turn The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helps women feel loved, valued, and able to help make a difference in the world.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Ninna
Mormons do not worship Joseph Smith. We revere Joseph Smith just as we revere Moses, Abraham, Isaiah , Malachi and all the other prophets throughout time. Joseph Smith did a great work. He restored the church in these more recent times, the same church that Jesus Christ established while He was here. Joseph Smith went through a lot to restore The Church of Jesus Christ and I guess that is why people may falsely think that we worship Joseph Smith because we do talk a lot about him and we are so grateful for what he did to give us the gospel as we know it. We have prophets today who continues to communicate with Jesus Christ because it is Jesus Christ who is the leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is He, Jesus Christ, that we worship and it is He that we look to for salvation, not Joseph Smith or any one of the long line of prophets who have served as such since Joseph Smith was martyred. What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Ninna
If you choose to have missionaries come to your home they will tell you about what we believe and why we believe it to be so important. This will all probably not happen during the same visit but over several visits. They will show you scriptures in the Bible and in the Book of Mormon and show you how those two books go hand in hand to tell you about Jesus Christ and His gospel. They will ask you to read and pray about what you read. They will answer any questions you may have. The missionaries will teach you about Jesus Christ and why it is important to have faith in Him. They will teach you that Jesus Christ loves you and that there is a plan in place for you to be happy in this life and in the life to come. They will teach you that because of the love Jesus has for all of us he paid for our sins with His life, and that when we turn away from sin we honor the great gift that Jesus gave us. They will teach you that there are certain things that we are expected to do to show that we understand the plan of happiness such as having faith in Jesus, turn away from our sins and being baptized with the same authority that Jesus had when he was on the earth and then try to follow the example of Jesus for the rest of our lives. If you will ask questions and be willing to hear the answers you can have a wonderful time meeting with the missionaries and through their teaching you can feel God's love for you as an individual. Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

Ninna
Tithing as we call it is something that we willingly give. We believe that it is through God that we have all that we have and we are asked to give back only one-tenth. Tithing is being used to build up God's Kingdom on the earth. Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Ninna
I guess Mormon customs may be slightly different from some, but I really think that we are not that different when people really get to know us. We dress up on Sundays and go to different church meetings for 3 hours every Sunday, we don't just pick and choose which church building to go to, we are assigned a congregation depending on our home address. I personally find this very comforting as I know who I will see every Sunday, my kids actually go to school with the other youth at church and when we know of a need by a member of our congregation we are able to more effectively help because we live nearby. We try really hard to live our religion every day and not just on Sunday. We rely on the Savior Jesus Christ and try to show our love for Him and for what He has done for mankind by following in His foot steps and do what He commanded us all to do. Love God and love our fellow men. We may use different words like ward for congregation, Stake for a group of congregations and many more words that may not be familiar to the world in general. We are a peculiar people in some ways, but I will say that if you get to know us you will find that we are not that different from you. There are all kinds of Mormons. We come in all varieties just like any others you know. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Ninna
We know that it is important for people to have a chance to choose to follow Christ. It is our privilege to already know of God's love and plan of happiness for us and we want to give other people the chance to choose whether they also want to follow God's plan of happiness. We proselyte out of love for God's children, and as we believe we are all God's children, we are trying to share what makes us happy in our lives with our "brothers and sisters". Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Ninna
I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and my Redeemer. Period. Christ taught that "If ye love me, keep my commandments" so I try to live according to His commandments. He also taught "Love your neighbor as thyself" so I try to be kind to my fellow man. I am not trying to work my way to heaven I am just trying to follow Christ's example every day. Show more Show less
