Hi I'm Scott

and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and a father of four children. I have lived in Denmark, Scotland, Utah, Virginia and Northern California. I love the outdoors. I enjoy to camping, hiking, golfing, skiing and water skiing. Mostly I enjoy spending time with my wife and kids.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a Mormon. I can trace my ancestors back to the 1830's, 40's, and 50's to find the first "Mormons" in my family. Just because I was born into a "Mormon" family does not really explain why I am a Mormon. I am a Mormon simply because I had my prayers answered. There is only so much that you can learn or believe by listening to others and taking what they say as truth. As a child that is easy to do, but there has to come a time when you have to stand on your own and find out for yourself what it is that you really believe. For me that time came as an older teenager. I believed what I had been taught as a child and youth, but I was about to become a missionary and teach others about the Church. At that point I realized that I had I relied on the word of my parents and others regarding the truthfulness of the Gospel. I had read The Bible and The Book of Mormon, I believed that Joseph Smith was a true prophet, and I believed that Jesus Christ was my Savior. I also believed that in order to know for myself I needed to get an answer on my own. I knew that I would have to pray and ask specifically if The Book of Mormon was the word of God and if Joseph Smith was a prophet and if the Gospel was true. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous and was not sure if I would get an answer. I can tell you that my prayer was answered. It did not come immediately, but it did come, and when it did, I had a feeling of deep and abiding peace and warmth that radiated throughout my body. I knew what I was feeling was the Holy Ghost and I knew that The Book of Mormon was the word of God, Joseph Smith was a prophet and that Jesus Christ lives and is my savior and redeemer. The feeling I had was from God and I knew it was all true. Through this and continued spiritual experiences in my life I have chosen to be an active member of the "Mormon" Church and share the happiness I and my family have received from living the Gospel with others.

How I live my faith

My faith is a way of life--it shapes how I live and what I do and say and how I treat others. I was raised believing that service is just something that you do. Performing service for others is one of the ways I try to live my faith. I love the feeling I get when I help others. I have found when I am serving others my problems do not seem as bad and become much more manageable. I have many opportunities to serve at church. One example is home teaching. As a home teacher, I have a few families that I visit each month where I share a spiritual message and see how they are doing. I like to serve those I home teach. I also have a home teacher that visits me and my family. If I have a problem or need help he is one of the first ones I call. It is a good feeling to know that there is someone just a phone call away that is willing to help out.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Scott
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gets its nick name "Mormons" from a belief in a book called The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is a book of ancient scripture that consists of the writings of prophets and their dealings with God on the American continent. It covers a time period over 1,000 years primarily beginning about 600 BC and ending around 400 AD. It contains an account of the visitation and teachings of Jesus Christ after his resurrection in the old world. The book has a promise recorded in Moroni 10: 3-4 that basically states if you read, ponder and pray bout the book that Heavenly Father will let you know if it is true, meaning that is true scripture or His word. I have tried that test and I received an answer for myself that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. Show more Show less
