Hi I'm Dean

I am an IT Manager, I am a father, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of 5 wonderful children ages 8 - 18. I attended college at Brigham Young University (BYU) where I met my wife. After graduation from BYU, I attended Nursing school at Weber State University where I earned my Associates Degree. I later attended the University of Utah where I earned my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and Masters in Nursing. I worked for about 7 years in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at the University of Utah Hospital. After completion of my Masters degree, I went to work for the hospital's IT department which is where I am still currently employed.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were members of the Church when I was born, but weren't actively attending. When I turned 8 years old, the bishop called my parents and asked if they would like to have me baptized. My parents said they would. They were told that I would need to take the missionary lessons since I had not attended church very often. The missionaries came and taught me and my family. When I learned how I was to be baptized, by immersion or completely buried in the water, I was scared. I had nearly drown when I was younger. When it came time for my baptism, I was interviewed by the bishop. He asked me which missionary I wanted to baptize me. I told him neither of them. The only person that I trusted to put my head under the water was my dad. The bishop excused me and spoke with my dad and told him of my wish. My dad asked what he needed to do to become worthy to perform the baptism. Six months later, I was baptized by my father. We have been actively attending church ever since. It was while I was teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in Peru and saw the transformational changes that took place in the lives of those who embraced the gospel that my own faith and testimony were greatly strengthened. I know that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. I know that he restored his church to the earth through the prophet Joseph Smith. I know that the Bible and the Book of Mormon are true scriptures and help us to get closer to Jesus. I know that we have a living prophet on the earth today.

How I live my faith

In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I serve others by helping organize groups of people to help in the Churches dry pack and wet pack canneries. I also have the blessing to be assigned to visit two families in our neighborhood each month. One of the teachings of the church is to meet together as a family every Monday evening to spend time together and teach each other the gospel. We look forward to every Monday night to spend this time together. We sometimes watch a movie together, or we play games, or go on hikes or walks. We also look forward to Sunday's where we spend part of our day attending church meetings. It is a great blessing in our family to have one day out of the week to just be with each other. My wife and I along with our 3 oldest children have enjoyed participating in our local church choir. Our oldest son is now currently serving a full-time mission for the church. When young men turns 18 and graduates from high school they have the opportunity to follow the Lord's command to preach the gospel. He left in July of 2013 and will return home in July 2015. While he is away from home, we email him once a week and he sends us an email as well. He has been assigned to teach the gospel in Paraguay and Argentina. While we miss him, we have seen tremendous growth in him. We are happy to share him with our brothers and sisters in Paraguay and Argentina so that they too may experience the great joy the gospel of Jesus Christ has brought into our family.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon was written by prophets. These prophets handed down their writings to their children. It could be said that the Book of Mormon is a record of fathers to their children. It contains their teachings about the Savior, Jesus Christ. One of my favorite scriptures in the Book of Mormon was written by a prophet named, Nephi. He said: "And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."
