Hi I'm Rhoda Mary

About Me

I am a stay at home mom with four little rascals. My life revolves around my family and what I can do to help them. I home-school my preschool age kids and then send them off to public school where I love to volunteer in their class rooms. Coupons and 'good buy's' are my passion, they are really addicting once you start using them...I consider it my part time job! I also love family walks, camping, reading, blogging and going on dates with my wonderful husband.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, in part, because I was raised that way! I have ancestors who joined the church during it's early days in the 1800's, I have ancestors who pulled handcarts across the plains to settle in the Salt lake valley and I have a long list of amazing family members who are wonderful Latter-day saints. But the reason I choose to continue to be a Mormon is because of the thousands of times throughout my life where my heart has told me "it's true!" I certainly am not perfect, far from it in fact. I've even had times in my life where I've question everything I've learned about the LDS religion. One such time was in my early twenty’s; I had found out that my boss had recently joined the church (big surprise!). I asked him why... “why did you decide to join the Mormon church?” He turned to me, shrugged and said: "Honestly, I just thought it was a good way to live!” He then went on the explain some of the attributes of some Mormons he knew that he liked and respected: the integrity, service, compassion, modesty, and the Word of Wisdom. He told me that it’s exactly the life he wanted for his family. He then went on to explain how he started to look into the religion and found so much more his family could gain. He testified of a more perfect knowledge of his Savior Jesus Christ, and the amazing power of the Priesthood brought back to the earth through the prophet Joseph Smith, He testified of temples and eternal families. Of course I grew up knowing all this! Yet there I sat listening to a new convert testify of the truthfulness of MY CHURCH! It touched my heart so powerfully that it was as if I was hearing it all for the first time. My testimony has grows so much since that day and continues to grow stronger still. I know this Church is true. I know that Jesus Christ our Savior died for us, that we may live again. I know that God, our Father and his Son Jesus Christ love ME (and you!). I know it because I can feel my heart tell me it's true.

How I live my faith

I am currently a Den Mother in Cub Scouts charter through the LDS chuch. When I first was introduced into the program I was so overwhelmed by how "different" the culture was, everything was so "odd" and even a bit confusing. I felt a little lost and overwhelmed. I had a friend confided in me that she had felt the same way when she was introduced into Cub Scouts. Looking back she was grateful to have had that opportunity to experience something so different and new, it allows us the opportunity to understand what investigators and new coverts to the church might experience when looking into the LDS religion. For me it only took a while for the 'weirdness' to fade away and for the love to grow. I love working with the boys and the BSA. I now understand why our LDS leaders encourage the boys to join, it teaches good citizenship, service, personal achievement, fitness, spiritual growth and overall good self esteem. It's a good way to live!

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Rhoda Mary
The purpose of life is to come to earth, receive a body, learn and LIVE the teachings of Jesus Christ…so that we may return to our Father in Heaven someday. Show more Show less
