Hi I'm Dustin Morris

About Me

Here are some things you need to know about me… I live in one of the greatest states in America, Alaska. Because I live here I have had to become the ready for anything kind of guy. I have slept outside in a man-made snow cave at below freezing temperatures, been chased off a local golf course by a grizzly bear and pinned down in some trees by a mother moose on an inner city bike trail. Most recently I have completed a Tough Mudder challenge and am training for three full marathons in 2013. I have one amazing wife whom I have known since the 5th grade and two incredibly awesome children (boy & girl). In addition to running, training, parenting, trying to be a good husband and maintaining a full time job, I am pursuing or continuing my education through an online program offered by BYUI. I love life; I love God and try to live according to his standards. I live by this motto and mantra, “When you obey God’s command, you prosper in the land.”

Why I am a Mormon

One day my friend came to me and confessed that she felt that she was missing something in her life and wanted to return to church. She had been raised Mormon but had not been practicing her faith for some time. She asked if I would go with her so she wouldn’t have to be alone. I of course said I would. Keep in mind I had no interest in faith of any kind or changing my life at this point and simply felt I was doing a favor for my friend. Little did I know that her invitation to help her change her life would have such an impact on mine. Soon after visiting her mother’s ward I was greeted by missionaries who wanted to share their message with me. I agreed, and to this day don’t recall why. These young men seemed so inviting and being the social person I am, I must have thought if anything I will make a few new friends. As they shared their message with me I was overwhelmed by the spirit. I began to read the Book of Mormon and pray, I began to have faith in Jesus Christ, so much so that I wanted to repent of my sins and change my life. I gave up smoking, drinking and all drugs. I began to see my friend in a new light and fell deeply in love. I learned that through the restored gospel we could be together forever and I wanted that. I gained a testimony and proposed to my friend. We were married June 10th, 2005 and I was baptized on the 18th of the same month. A year later my wife and I entered the Temple and were sealed for all time and eternity.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in many different ways. Mostly I look for opportunities to make friends and share my love for Christ and his resorted gospel with them. I have found that the internet and social media have become instrumental tools in reaching out to my family and friends. I often find myself posting things regarding the church and our beliefs as Latter Day Saints. I share pictures from church activities, scriptures verses that caught my attention and invitations to events that may be of interest. As a marathon runner I love to draw parallels between the gospel and my sport. I can really get chatty when it comes to talking about enduring to the end and the importance of learning precept upon precept. You have to learn to crawl before you can run.
