Hi I'm Dennis

About Me

I enjoy spending time with my children, playing with the grandkids and participating in different sporting events such as golf, softball, bowling and table tennis or pool. I enjoy all water sports and love going to the beach with my wife. We have been happily married for over 32 years and are proud grandparents of eight grandchildren. I love being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It has brought me joy and happiness for many years and allows me to learn more about what I need to do to improve myself and help others along the way.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of this Church because I know from my own personal study and prayer that the principles being taught by this Church are the same as the original Church that Christ established when he was upon the earth. I have received answer to my personal prayers that this Church has a living prophet at its head and he receives revelation for the Church and the people of this world. Christ is at the head of this Church and I know these things from personal testimony and prayer. I have been blessed for my service in the Lords Church and I have a better understanding and knowledge of the plan of salvation and what I need to do in order to return back to my Father in Heaven.

How I live my faith

I live the gospel principles on a daily basis trying to improve myself and my family so they are an asset to their community and are respectable citizens and parents. I grow spiritually from my interaction with other members in our church and enjoy the fellowship of members in our local area. I try to learn how I can better serve the Lord through my church responsibility and how I can influence the community for the general good of our society.

In whom should we have faith?

Dennis
We need to have faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ, and we need to have faith in our leaders, parents, teachers, and ourselves. Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Dennis
We celebrate all holidays in our country and we dress for church in the best clothing that we have (suit and tie, dresses for women). We have family prayer each night and once a week have a family night together to discuss the weeks events or have a gospel discussion or play games as a family. We look out for each others well being and want what is best for our family members. We strive to show love to each other and to follow the teachings of the Savior. Show more Show less

What is the role of the husband and the wife in the family?

Dennis
We are co partners in raising our family and preparing our children to be the best that they can become as citizens and Christians. The father plays his role as provider and the wife has a major role as the nurturer and caretaker of the family. They share in all decisions and work together for the betterment of the family. Why is family so important to Mormons?

Dennis
We believe family is an eternal principle and that we can be together forever through our Heavenly Fathers plan. We realize that there is strength in a family that cannot be found elsewhere and that children need this structure and strength to contend with the many challenges that they face as they mature to adulthood. We held family night each week and allowed the children to enjoy being with each other and to get away from the outside world and enjoy the company of siblings and parents once each week. We always had each other to turn to during difficult times or loneliness and built lifelong relationships with each other that have carried on past our youth into our own adult lives. We believe we will be families after this life and still enjoy our association with one another as an eternal family. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Dennis
This has to be done one individual at a time as we battle the influence of evil we need to stand strong and where possible try to eradicate the influence of pornography from out communities. Political involvement can help and writing to our congresspersons can also let them know our concerns. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Dennis
We do not worship our living or our dead prophets but we revere them as great leaders in the Church and recognize their leadership and teachings as inspired doctrine and the words of our Savior when speaking as our prophet. Show more Show less

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Dennis
We believe in helping anyone in need and try to do our part in helping to relieve the suffering and hardships of all faiths and peoples. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Dennis
Baptism is an earthly ordinance and must be performed by the priesthood and in the manner prescribed by our Savior and that is by immersion. Those who have passed on and have accepted the gospel in the after life are in need of a baptism as a mandatory ordinance to return back into the presence of our Father. We perform this ordinance as a proxy for those who have passed away without having received this ordinance so they can continue in their progress back to our Father. This is done under the assumption that they might have accepted the gospel in the afterlife and are awaiting someone to perform this ordinance for them in the flesh. They cannot be baptized in the spirit world after leaving this earthly existence. We must help our ancestors by performing this ordinance for them. Show more Show less

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Dennis
Each missionary is responsible for his own expenses and should have been saving money while growing up and probably will receive support from his parents and family while he is serving. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Dennis
The atonement allows us to be forgiven of our sins and Christ takes upon himself our sins and we in turn promise to change our ways and improve ourselves and not commit these sins again. Christ was the only person on the earth to have lived a perfect life and thus was capable of taking our sins upon himself and becoming our advocate with the Father and remove our sins so we could one day return into the presence of our Father. Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Dennis
Yes, God loves us today as much as he loved his children in the past and we too can be blessed from having a prophet in our lives and following his direction. Our prophet today is Thomas S. Monson. He is my prophet and your prophet and leads and guides our Saviors Church in these Latter Days. Throughout history, God has chosen prophets, such as Noah, Abraham, Moses, and others, to teach the gospel and direct His Church (Amos 3:7). It is no different today. We all need God’s guidance in a world that is sometimes confusing. Because God loves His children, He continues to send living prophets. Joseph Smith (1805–44) was the first prophet of our time. Thomas S. Monson is God’s chosen prophet today. Just as God led the Israelites out of slavery and to a better place through His prophet Moses, He leads His children today into happier, more peaceful lives when they choose to follow His living prophet. We invite you to listen to the words of living prophets and consider how knowing God’s will can benefit your life. Show more Show less
