Hi I'm Janea Angela

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a 39-year-old stay-at-home-mom with a 2-year-old daughter and another girl due in September. My husband was baptized a few years ago but is not active. My mother lives with us, and she and I regularly attend church. I was born and raised in the church by my mother and her family. We are directly descended from John Murdock who is mentioned in the Doctrine and Covenants.

Why I am a Mormon

The first time I got up to bear my testimony, I was about three or four years old. I remember talking my mother into taking me up to the stand, and then backing out on the deal at the last minute, so she held me while she spoke. Now, I’ll talk non-stop whenever anyone is listening - and sometimes when they aren’t listening! It is wonderful to be able to travel all the away across a continent, and even into a different country of my own, and still be surrounded by my church family. What a blessing to have this Gospel in common with so many, and to be able to support each other when in need. I once asked a teacher of mine (a non-Christian in fact) why some people seemed to have a rougher time in life than others. He told me that while some are gently sanded and smoothed, in order to polish and refine the spirit - others are considered to be of great worth, and the gem cutter’s strikes can be quite harsh in order to expose the beauty within. What a wonderful thing to be considered worthy of the gem cutter’s hammer! We are thought strong enough to withstand those perfecting blows, so that we may appear before our Lord as an exquisite gem, shining with His light, worthy of an inheritance beyond imagination. My favorite scripture reads: “Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.” (St Luke 22:31.) He plays upon our insecurities. He will constantly tap, tap, tap at you until, perhaps quite suddenly, your belief and resolve crumble to dust. Don’t let him have you. Catch him before he takes you too far. I’ve been there, and I am so very lucky to have been able to come back. I know of the great love that Jesus Christ has for every one of us. I know that, if we had even the faintest memory of what it was like when we were all together in the pre-existence, when we lived with our heavenly family - that we would not let anything prevent us from getting back home again. I want to bear my testimony to you, that I know that our Savior lives, that he suffered and died for our sins, that we might once again return to live with Him. I thank my Father in heaven for the opportunity to serve. By doing so, I hope that I can show the love that I have for Father and Jesus in return.

How I live my faith

I hold a current temple recommend. I follow the Word of Wisdom. I listen to what the prophets teach and try my best to follow their examples. When I am able to attend church frequently I usually play the piano for the women's or children's meetings, and sometimes play the organ for the regular Sunday meeting.

Are Mormons Christians?

Janea Angela
Absolutely. The subtitle to the "Book of Mormon" is "Another Testament to Jesus Christ. Like the Bible, it is comprised of books written by prophets that testify to the truth and teachings of Christ. Show more Show less
