Hi I'm Michelle Thompson

I believe in having a little bit of fun every day, and I'm proud to be a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife, a daughter, a friend, a mother and new grandmother. I'm a sometimes chocolate chip cookie devourer and a perpetual crafter. I'm a spontaneous singer of show tunes, a fierce board game player, and the one who feeds the dog and kitty. I am a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, and I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a Mormon my whole life. I have always had a close relationship with my Savior. I have read the Book of Mormon many times and I continue to try to read from it or from the Bible every day. The Book of Mormon is a companion to the Bible and another witness of Jesus Christ. As I have studied the Book of Mormon and prayed about its truthfulness, I have felt a witness that it is true. Each time I pray about it, I have a feeling that I always have known that this book is true. It teaches us about Jesus Christ and our Heavenly Father's plan for us. I continue to follow the gospel because I believe it is the gospel of Jesus Christ and I want to do what he has asked of me.

How I live my faith

I volunteer my time to serve in my congregation. I have mostly served with the children and youth. I love to share my testimony with them and I love to feel their spirit. They have so much love to give. I currently serve with the women of my congregation. I love helping them connect with each other in positive ways.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Michelle Thompson
Although serving a mission is not a requirement, Mormon young men are highly encouraged to live their lives so that they will be worthy and ready to serve a 2 year mission at age 19. Young women are encouraged to serve an 18 month mission at age 21 if they would like to. Older couples serve missions, and I would love to be able to do that with my husband someday. My son served a full time mission, and I saw so much growth in him, spiritually as well as just gaining maturity. Most 19 year old kids are thinking about only themselves at that time in their lives. Our missionaries have opportunities to serve others, teach the gospel of Jesus Christ, mature, and strengthen their own personal testimonies. As a parent, I am grateful for this opportunity for my son, and our family has received blessings through his service. Show more Show less

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Michelle Thompson
Mormon women come in all shapes, sizes, colors and backgrounds. We worry about the same things other women do! I think while men and women have different roles to play, they are meant to work together as a partnership. This is true in marriages, in families, and in the church. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Michelle Thompson
The priesthood is the power and authority to act in God's name here on earth. Men who are worthy to hold the priesthood can perform ordinances, like baptism, and they can give blessings to those who are sick or who desire a blessing for other reasons. Through our faith, we all are able to have the blessings of the priesthood. Show more Show less

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Michelle Thompson
Absolutely. God speaks through our living Prophet. Our world sometimes seems chaotic, and I am so grateful to have a Prophet of God to give me guidance. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Michelle Thompson
You can read the Book of Mormon with an open heart, and then pray sincerely to know if it is true. Show more Show less

What are Mormon church services like? Are visitors allowed at church meetings? Can I attend church?

Michelle Thompson
Yes, come and join us! We dress in our Sunday best, usually dresses for women and shirts and ties or suits for men. We meet for 3 hours which includes Sacrament Meeting where we take the Sacrament, sing hymns and listen to speakers, Sunday School where we have classes that focus on the scriptures, and also Relief Society and Priesthood meetings, which are separate classes for women and men where we have similar gospel oriented lessons. Children and teens have their own classes too. Show more Show less
