Hi I'm Kari

I'm a single Mormon college student.

About Me

I love laughing. Loudly. I blog, bake, sing, jog, and dream. Mostly, I'm just happy.

Why I am a Mormon

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints is centered on personal revelation. I can find the answers I'm looking for by talking to my Heavenly Father. This means that I have a real relationship with my Father in Heaven. I know that he is listening and guiding me, because I've been communicating with him my whole life. I've noticed the differences in my life when I don't talk with him. Although we have local, regional, and church-wide leadership this is simply to ensure that the general consensus of the church is the same. After all, people aren't perfect and can misinterpret the impressions of the Holy Spirit.

How I live my faith

Currently I volunteer as a service coordinator. The technical title is Compassionate Service Leader. Basically I search for people who need help. Whether it's a hug, a ride to work, dinner, a plate of cookies, or even a birthday wish. No one should ever feel abandoned, and it is my job to make sure that doesn't happen. We all need people. At some point, independence doesn't work out so well. So I ensure that everyone has someone to turn to, in even the most devastating of circumstances.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Kari
Absolutely! Why would the Lord communicate through a prophet before Christ but not after? Times change, people change. We need that constant guidance in order to succeed in this life. Scriptures and personal revelation are important but we need a prophet to give direct council from God. Thomas S. Monson currently holds the authority to speak the will of the Father. Because he has lived his life in accordance with the desires of God. Show more Show less

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Kari
Homosexual feelings are not sinful. However, pre-marital sexual relationships are. We are commanded to multiply and replenish the Earth, but only after marriage. Because only heterosexual couples can create life, we believe that our Heavenly Father only recognizes marriages between these couples. We get married to create life, allowing our spiritual brothers and sisters to gain a body. Homosexual couples physically can not allow this to happen. So having same-gender attraction is not wrong, so long as you do not have any kind of sexual relations. Show more Show less

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Kari
No, women do not hold the priesthood but we do get every blessing that comes from it. There are two equally important jobs within our church. The priesthood and motherhood. As a woman, I am extremely excited for the chance to have children. To raise, love, and care for children. If anything I am grateful that I do not hold the priesthood. With it, comes much responsibility. Priesthood holders are often called at 3 in the morning to help those in need. As a woman I am woken at three in the morning to feed a helpless infant. Motherhood and the Priesthood are synonymous in my opinion. Both parties reap the blessings of each calling. I do not miss out on anything, I just have a different job. Show more Show less
