Hi I'm Mark Richards

My wife and I have 6 children and 2 grandchildren. I love to fish, run, boat, ATV, and spend time with my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Mark. I have been married to my sweetheart, Karlan, since 1981. We have 6 wonderful children, 4 wonderful son/daughter-in-laws, and 3 amazing grandchildren! I was born in Spokane, Washington and at the age of 13 moved with my family to Illinois. We lived in Illinois for 3 years and then moved to Arkansas for 3 years where I graduated from High School. I attended college in Idaho and Utah and then went to graduate school in Washington state. I love to do things with our family. I love to fly fish, water ski, motorcycle and ATV, barbecue and cook ribs on my smoker. I served an LDS mission in London, England from 1978 to 1980. There, I learned about life and driving!!! I am now serving a mission in Baltimore, Maryland with my wife and our two youngest children.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family where my parents were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I participated actively in the church through my years growing up. Even though I was actively involved in the church, my true testimony came as a result of serving others on my mission in London, England. It was in London, while serving others and losing myself in the service of others, that I truly "found" myself and my Savior, Jesus Christ. It was there, as a 19 year old young man, that I was able to find out for myself that the Gospel of Jesus Christ had indeed been restored to the earth. I put to the test the invitation that I was asking others to do so that they too could find out for themselves that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was indeed the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I studied the Book of Mormon and asked Heavenly Father if the things that I was reading and teaching others were true. In an undeniable way, I was told, by the Holy Ghost, that the gospel had indeed been restored. It was then that I knew for myself that Heavenly Father does still communicate with us through a living prophet, just as He did in ancient times. I can now say with assurance, that I know that God does live and that Jesus Christ is my Savior. I know that Joseph Smith was indeed a prophet who Heavenly Father selected to restore the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth. I know that the Book of Mormon, along with the Bible, testifies of Jesus Christ and his life that he gave for us. I know that we do have a living prophet and apostles on the earth today, just as the Savior did, who can teach us the will of our Heavenly Father in these challenging times. If you don't know this for yourself, I invite you to meet with the missionaries of the church. They can help you know for yourself the truthfulness of this message. It can change your life!

How I live my faith

My father always taught me to be as active in the gospel of Jesus Christ as I am in the church of Jesus Christ. I love serving others and seeing them grow. Selfishly, that helps me to grow as well in ways I never could have imagined. I attempt to live each day sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ always, and when necessary, using words! I am currently a missionary for the church serving in the Maryland Baltimore Mission. I am here with my companion of 31 years, my wife, and our 16 year old son and 13 year old daughter. We are loving this experience. We are blessed to meet people throughout the states of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania through our service. We are touched daily by the actions and thoughtfulness of others.
