Hi I'm Skylar

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love going to shows and playing the guitar. Music has always been important to me. I also love movies and basketball. I currently am a college student studying business economics.

Why I am a Mormon

Many people argue that the Bible is contradictory and you can get whatever you want out of it. There is obviously a lot of confusion out there about what Christianity is. That is quite evident by the 1,000's of different churches with 1,000's of different doctrines. This was not so in the days of Christ and afterwords. They were always led by a prophet, and this prophet always had priesthood authority from Christ. I am a Mormon because Christianity in its purity does exsist again. Led by a prophet with priesthood authority. There is so much clarity in this church. So much guidance. So many answers and additional sources to strengthen my relationship with Christ. If he loves us as much as the people in ancient days, wouldn't it make sense that he would call a prophet now? He has and he is still speaking through his prophets today!

How I live my faith

Faith in Christ guides me through every descision in my life. He is my brightness when I'm down, my refuge when I'm scared, and my salvation when I sin. He is my Savior and my friend. I try to live my life by mirroring His. I fall short every day but I know when I turn to Him, His arm is never shortened and He is always willing to embrace me in His arms.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Skylar
No. We revere Joseph Smith as the Prophet of our dispensation. Similar to how the christians felt about Peter during the time of Christ, or Moses during the time that Israel was traveling to Jerusalem. They had prophets but worshipped only God. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Skylar
Jesus Christ boldly testified "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." (Mark 16:16) This doctrine taught by the savior seems uncompassionate and confusing when we think of how many people on earth never had the oppurtunity to believe or be baptized. Shall they be damned simply because they didn't have access to the information or baptism needed for salvation? No. Our Heavenly Father is a just and loving God, he cares enough about his children to give them all an oppurtunity to hear of his Son and partake of his salvation. Because of this they are taught of Christ and given an oppurtunity to accept his gospel in the next life. This includes the oppurtunity to accept a baptism done in their stead. These baptisms are performed in Temples, much like a baptism done anywhere else. Members are baptised for those who weren't given that oppurtunity in this life. Show more Show less

How do I become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church)?

Skylar
To become a member of the church you must be baptized and confirmed into the church. The only qualifications for this is to have faith in Christ and repent for your sins. Missionaries from our church help you understand what you need to do before making this big decision. Show more Show less

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Skylar
The church views homosexual indivuals as children of God. We believe that God loves his children equally and is no respecter of persons. We also believe that God looks at any sexual activity outside the bonds of marraige that he has set as sin, or something that goes against his will. Whether they heterosexual or homosexual the Lord does not approve of any sexual relations out side of marraige. Marraige, to a mormon, is a sacred religous ceremony that God institued in the beginning of time. This religous ceremony is between a man and a woman where they make promises to each other and to God. It initiates the beginning of a family where they follow the commandment to multiply and replinish the earth, and strive to raise children in the gospel of Christ. By accepting any other standard of marraige it is a mockery to our beliefs of this sacred ceremony. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Skylar
Mormons teachings are the teachings of Christ. We believe he is leading our church, like he lead the church in ancient times. We worship him as our Savior our Lord. We are indebted to him and will be forever for giving his life that we may live again with him and the Father. Every doctrine and principle taught in the church is rooted from our faith that Jesus lived paid the penalty for our sin, died, and was resurrected. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Skylar
Certainly salvation is not possible with out the grace of God. We believe that Gods grace is made possible because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Without his grace all would fall short to the glory of God and no one would be able to go to heaven on our works alone. Faith in Christ, baptism, recieving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end is the doctrine of Christ. (Heb. 6:1-2) But even following these principles is not enough to save us. Eventually it will be the grace of Jesus Christ that will save us. "How great the importance to make these things known unto the inhabitants of the earth, that they may know that there is no flesh that can dwell in the presence of God, save it be through the merits, and mercy, and grace of the Holy Messiah..." (The Book of Mormon 2 Nephi 2:8) Show more Show less
