Hi I'm Ian

About Me

I am a 30 year old stay at home dad to my two year old daughter and 10 month old son. I just finished my bachelor's degree and will be starting law school in the fall of 2010. At that point my wife will stay home with the kids and we'll see how well we can stick to a tight budget. I joined the church in 2006 when I was 26 and have seen my life blessed in countless ways since.

Why I am a Mormon

There are probably a million things I could list that would fall into the "Why I am a Mormon" category. The most important answer however is because I know that the Book of Mormon is true and I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet and that Thomas S. Monson is a prophet of God on the Earth today. I prayed to know that these things were true and over time the Spirit gave me an undeniable witness that they are. With this knowledge I have to be a Mormon. To do anything else would be to deny what I know to be true. As I have followed the commandments and standards of the Church I have seen more and more blessings come into my life that have strengthened my faith and my testimony that I know this church is true.

How I live my faith

In addition to the little things that I do everyday like reading my scriptures and praying I am also a leader for the young men in our ward. We have a pretty small group of guys so we don't do a lot of the big activities that some wards do. Recent activities have included fishing, building a campfire, and a service project where we cleaned up a neighborhood park. This summer we'll be going on a five day canoe camping trip. I'm not sure if I'll be able to go since I'll be moving, but the young men will have a great time. I also try to read the scriptures to my kids everyday. Somedays that works out better than others.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Ian
NO! We worship God and Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith is a revered leader in our church, much in the same way that Moses and Abraham were revered in the Old Testament. We hold Joseph Smith in very high regard and know that he was a great prophet, but this is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, not the church of Joseph Smith. Show more Show less
