Hi I'm Gary W.

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married to Suzette. Between us we have six children and two grandchildren. I teach business administration courses at a college. I am also the lead faculty member for our campus. My wife is the academic adviser at the same college. I served in the US Air Force for 22 years; retiring in 1998. The past 14 years have found me both as a college administrator as well as in the classroom with students. That said, the classroom is where my heart is. I love the students and am focused on their success and education. On on occasion, while living abroad in England, a young 9-year old girl taught me a wonderful lesson. I asked her why we should have faith in Jesus Christ. Without hesitation, she replied, "Because he has faith in us." There is great meaning in that simple declaration. She taught me that if Christ had faith in me, I should have faith in others. I have lived my life since that time with a single purpose, to show others that I have faith in them and their potential. I hope that when I have completed this short sojourn on this earth, that it would be said of me, he loved all. Each person is my brother or my sister. I feel their spirit. I love how each person I interact with helps me to be a better person; a better son of God.

Why I am a Mormon

Although my family has been associated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since its early its early restoration and formal establishment in 1830, I had to come to Christ on my own. There are many who would endeavor to find fault with the church or its members. We are not perfect. I am not perfect. I am a member of the Lord's Kingdom because I have studied, pondered, prayed, fasted, repented and tried to live all of the teachings. These are the activities that I went through that have placed me in a position to received a confirmation to my spirit that there is truth in the Bible, Book of Mormon, and the other scripture. I add my witness that there are prophets alive today that are teaching and preparing us to return to live with God.

How I live my faith

I am the Gospel Doctrine Teacher in my Ward. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I love to learn, share, and facilitate the understanding of the gospel in others' lives. I seek the spirit to finds ways of teaching so that people can understand how scripture applies to them; today. I feel it is important to realize that whatever is revealed by the Holy Ghost is scripture. It certainly is not scripture for the entire church, but it is personal scripture to each individual. Being prompted or taught by the Holy Ghost is a form of personal revelation. The word revelation comes from the Latin, revelare; which literally means to part the veil, or cover. I feel that our loving Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus the Christ, do not desire to hold anything from our view. We are the limiting factor. It is our responsibility to live lives in such a way that we are open to the whisperings of the spirit, to be taught from on high, and to be shown how to be or service to each brother or sister we encounter. This is my approach to the gospel and how I live my faith.
