Hi I'm Rick

I raised my family in Texas. I'm a professional statistician, a certified Six Sigma Black Belt and a Mormon.

About Me

I am the husband of a wonderful woman and together we have been blessed with 4 children. The best part of my life is time spent with my family. I also enjoy learning about history. Knowing how few people throughout history have had access to a prophet and the gospel of Jesus Christ gives me cause for reflection. I read with wonder of both ancient and more modern peoples who struggled and suffered and lived out their lives without the full blessings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I marvel at the confluence of scriptural prophecy concerning these last days and the current affairs of nations and men. I marvel as milestone after milestone towards the millennial reign of the Lord Jesus Christ unfolds on the worlds stage. I have complete confidence that God lives and loves us and that He is in control. If we put our trust in him we will be all right, no mater what happens.

Why I am a Mormon

I make a living by helping manufacturing people use statistics to improve their manufacturing processes. I teach them to use the scientific method in a very practical way, 1)Define Problem 2)Hypothesize 3)Gather Data 4)Analyze Data 5)Implement Solution. Long before I was ever trained in problem solving I did a very similar thing with respect to my own belief system. 1) Problem: I was raised in a family that believed and practiced the Mormon religion. I was quite aware of the way my parent's religion set me apart from others outside of church, and I told myself if it is not true I am not willing to put myself through a lot of grief over it. At the age of 14, I decided I needed to know for myself if this demanding religion was what I wanted or not. 2) Hypothesize: But, I thought, if it is true it surely is the most important thing in the whole world and should be both obeyed and shared. 3) Gather Data: I decided since the Book of Mormon is the keystone of the Mormon religion I must read it. At times it was hard and at times it was so interesting I could hardly put it down. After several months I arrived at the last chapter where I read these words, "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost". I slipped out of bed onto the cold, hard concrete of my basement room and asked God to tell me if it was true. I did not see an angel or a vision, but I did receive a powerfully comforting, peaceful feeling, an assurance in the depths of my soul that the Book of Mormon is true. 4) Analyze Data: This was an answer to my prayer! It was the beginning of my testimony that God is real and that He knows and loves me. 5) Solution: I have been faithful to this testimony ever since.

How I live my faith

My first experience when I was 14, with answers to prayer from God, has been repeated innumerable times for me and millions of others. The consequences to my life are that I am a full believer in the prophetic mission of Joseph Smith. I Believe that the priesthood restored to Joseph Smith by Peter, James and John is the power of God on earth. I have spent thousands of hours and thousands of dollars to help build what I believe is the Kingdom of God on Earth. I served as a scoutmaster in two different troops for years. I also have been a cub scout leader, a Sunday School teacher and a leader at summer girls camps for many years. I am often assigned to speak on Sundays at other congregations near my own. The gospel of Jesus Christ is actually quite easy to speak about. It is internally consistent and contains answers to all the important questions of life, the ones philosophers, kings and peasants have puzzled over as far back as man's history records. I am privileged to extend requests for service to many who like me, count it a blessing and a responsibility to do what the Lord asks through his authorized servants. I have personally witnessed many miracles and have been blessed through inspiration and revelation from God to many others which enabled them to accomplish what could not be accomplished with their own wisdom. I have traveled the world in my profession and have visited many congregations of my church on 4 continents. I am impressed by both the scope and the consistency of the work of God in these latter-days. The gifts of the Holy Spirit have been poured out upon the entire world. There actually is an army of true followers of Jesus Christ throughout the world, seeking and doing His will.
