Hi I'm John

I'm a student who likes physics, math, and poetry. I'm a Latter-day Saint.

About Me

I'm twenty-three years old. I like to read, doodle, think. I'm absentminded. At the moment I am a student studying physics and mathematics. Science of all sorts captivates me, but my deepest interest is quantum physics.

Why I am a Mormon

I read the scriptures every day and feel something. When I pray I feel that I'm in communion with God. I'm bothered by my personal foibles and weaknesses; I easily get overwhelmed by the mistakes I make every day. Maybe it's because I'm a perfectionist. But I see how God gives me grace to overcome my weaknesses. I feel forgiveness for my sins. Jesus is my Savior. The gospel is too beautiful. Life for me has too much meaning and purpose. For me to believe any other way would be a let down and a lie.

How I live my faith

I make reading the scriptures a priority. I go to church meetings every week. Jesus gave us this church for the "perfecting of the Saints" (Ephesians 4:12). Well, we're the Saints, and God is trying to make us better people, to perfect us. I choose to participate in God's plan for my betterment. A while ago I served as the leader of a small congregation in Moldova. I'm not Moldovan; the language was hard. There were overwhelming spiritual and economic problems among the members. I didn't always know how to help, but I saw God work through me and make me useful, despite my weaknesses. I pray a lot asking what kind of changes I should be making in my life. God always answers and always forgives me. This is possible because of the atonement of Jesus Christ.

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Yes, we believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He lived and walked on earth as a man, but he was more than just a man; he was divine. Mormons believe that Jesus Christ along with God the Father and the Holy Ghost work together to oversee everything. One ancient prophet put it this way "Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit... is one Eternal God" that will judge all mankind. Alma 1144 Show more Show less

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Do they? Well, in Romania they do. One thing I noticed when I lived there is that many Romanians refer to all minority denominations as cults. That is Baptists, Pentecostals, and Protestants in general are seen as belonging to cults. Many don't consider members of these denominations to be Christian. For a great deal of Romanians "Christian" is equal with "Romanian Orthodox." What I mean to point out is that the label "cult" is sometimes based on misunderstanding. It only takes knowing a few Baptists to see that the negative connotations of the word "cult" do not apply to them. The same can be said about Mormons. Show more Show less
