Hi I'm Cathy

I'm a mom, a homemaker, a small business owner, a PTA parent, and a Mormon.

About Me

Trying to raise three kids while facing the challenges of our day. Too little time, too little money, but lots of love!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a fifth generation Mormon and have ancestors who made the trek from Illinois to the Utah desert. I am a Mormon partially because of my ancestry, but I am completely a Mormon because of the spiritual witness I received when I prayed with all the faith in my heart to know if this was the Lord's true gospel. Although I now live in that same state my ancestors helped establish, I was not raised in Utah. I have lived all over the U.S. and have had many opportunities to live my religion and to test and be tested in many diverse ways. Despite it all, the challenges, the worries, the successes and failures, when I'm back on my knees the answer always remains the same... Yes.

How I live my faith

I serve in my congregation by being a secretary for our women's organization and by being a visiting teacher.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

We believe that God is our literal father. He has a body of flesh and bone, but a higher, more perfected type of body than the ones we experience here on Earth. He created us spiritually and sent us here to Earth to gain a body, to learn and grow and to have experiences not available in our heavenly home. After this Earth existence, we can return home to Him if we are persistent in trying to follow His ways. I say trying because He knew we would fail and falter. But that leads us to another topic, the need for a Savior. Show more Show less

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Unlike other religions, the church is organized by geographic location. A ward is basically a congregation the is formed similarly to a school's boundaries. If you live in a certain area, you are assigned to attend that specific ward. A stake is simply a cluster of wards - similar to a school district head offices. A branch is where there is not enough membership to create a ward, but members who still meet to worship together. Show more Show less

What is being a Mormon like?

When I lived outside of Utah, it was my sense of self. It made me different and unique to most people around me. Now having lived in Utah for 20 years, it is common and rather non-phenomenal (at least in the day to day functions). My neighbors make up my congregation. I worship with my children's school teachers and have my home repaired by ecclasiastical leaders. I can say one thing, the support system I have here is unfathomable compared to any other part of the country I have ever lived in. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Mormons share the same religious heritage as all the other Judeo-Chistian religions. The Bible contains the religious beginnings of the Gospel starting with Adam and Eve, our first parents. The Bible contains the prophecies foretelling of Christ his very teachings that we sustain as doctrine. Show more Show less
