Hi I'm Russell Hillyer

I'm a Mormon. Born and raised. I love science, especially physics and maths. I love food. I served a mission in England.

About Me

I am married and have two kids. I have just recently graduated from University with a B.Ed. Secondary with a Major in Physics and a minor in Maths. I want to be a High School teacher. I enjoy playing Ice Hockey and sailing. I spent two years in England (Yorkshire) as a missionary.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, many understand that this is not a guarantee that a person will continue to be involved in the Church. In this church, youth are encouraged to study and pray and find answers from God as to the Truth of the Gospel. When I was thirteen years old, I was in Sunday School and the teacher asked, "Who here knows that the church is true?" I did not raise my hand because if I was truly honest with myself, I did not know at that time. My friend even elbowed me, encouraging me to raise my hand, thinking that perhaps I had not heard the question. I had heard the question but did not want to pretend I knew something that I did not. It was at this time that I decided to fully engage myself with finding out if in fact the Church of Jesus Christ is God's church. I committed to reading the Book of Mormon, cover to cover and taking the challenge offered near the end of the book, to pray and ask God if it was true. The answer did not come immediately. It came a few weeks later when I had the opportunity to share my feelings regarding the Book and the Church. it was as I was speaking that I was able to feel God's love for me and the assurance that the Book of Mormon is true and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God's Church. I have never doubted since.

How I live my faith

I currently hold a leadership position in my church. Part of my responsibility is to ensure that the physical and spiritual needs of the members are being taken care of. I used to be involved with teaching the youth of the church and organizing weekly activities. In my home, I live my faith by teaching my family to pray daily and to read our scriptures. Every week I schedule time away from work and other things and spend time with my family learning about the Gospel and having fun together. I love to have conversations with others about my faith.
