Hi I'm Phillip

I'm a husband, father, and junior high teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am first and foremost a devoted husband and father. I love being part of my family and enjoy having fun with them. I am a middle-school computer teacher and Spanish teacher. I enjoy listening to books on my MP3 player, watching movies with my wife and kids, and riding my bicycle with my kids and dog.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church. Both of my parents and all of my siblings are members of the church. Even with this I had to find out for myself if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was the true Lord's only true church on this earth. In our church we have what we call Seminary. It is a class for teenagers to learn more about the Gospel during the school year. Every school year focuses on a different part of the scriptures. My senior year in high school was the year we studied the Book of Mormon. I really worked hard to finish reading it before the end of the school year. In the Book of Mormon there is a prophet named Moroni. The very last chapter of the Book of Mormon contains a promise from Moroni. It can be found in Moroni 10:3-5 (http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/moro/10?lang=eng). This is a promise that if you read the Book of Mormon and pray to God to know if it is true, he will tell you if it is true by the power of the Holy Ghost. I have learned about this promise since I was a little boy. However, I had not applied the promise ever in my life. After finishing the Book of Mormon I decided to pray about it to find out for myself if it were true. I don't know what I was expecting, but nothing happened at all. No angels came, I didn't have a fantastic dream, nothing. I didn't receive any answer at all. I was pretty confused. I kept on praying everyday to find out for myself. Finally, I started fasting one day about it as well. I prayed in the morning before I went to work and still nothing happened. However, that day at work I took my lunch break and went and sat by myself. I suddenly got this warm feeling inside and a thought came into my head saying: "You know it is true; you've always known." I feel that was a direct answer to my prayers. I have not doubted that the Book of Mormon is true or that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true since that day.

How I live my faith

Currently I am what is known as a Ward Clerk. I take care of the finances and other clerical items for our local congregation. I am blessed to have several assistant clerks that help me take care of all of these responsibilities. It is a big responsibility as I spend about 6-10 hours a week completing my duties. The one thing I really like about my responsibilities is that I get to meet with a lot of people in our congregation. I get to work with the secretaries of the different organizations in our congregation and sometimes with the presidents of those organizations. I get to help make sure that things work correctly "behind the scenes" in our ward.
