Hi I'm Karen

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My intention to go to college was diverted to marriage and motherhood. Along the way I have learned so much from practical living experience. Having a large family was a goal from my youth. The jouney has been wonderful. Of course there have been many challenges along the way. With faith in God and perservance my husband and I enjoy our "silver" years. We have great health and time from the demands of child rearing to pursue our own interests. We have spent time in Denmark, my husband's birth country. I've learned the language and have been deeply involved in researching my own family roots from that fairy tale country. I'm eager to use the latest computer technology to aid in finding and preserving the nuggets I am able to discover. My goal has been to visit all the 50 States. Just two more to go. Travel to other countries is one of my pleasures.

Why I am a Mormon

My Mormon roots go back to ancestors in Denmark, the British Isles, and early American patriots. They had the courage to go against the norm for their day and follow their religious conversion to the gospel of Jesus Christ as restored in 1820. I followed willing in their footsteps, but not blindly. I know for myself the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are the truth. Every day I rejoice in the peace that comes from being a follower of Christ. Winds may blow, but I do not break.

How I live my faith

Some of our children have chosen other spiritual paths. At first, this was very hard for me to accept. Over time, I realize that the love that binds us together is much more important that differences that may divide us. I live my faith openly with all my children and draw a big circle to include them and their lifestyle. It is amazing the bond of love that exists among us. The best way to show my reverence for Jesus Christ is to give service. I seek opportunities to do so every day. My husband and I have served as missionaries. Currently, we have the unique opportunity of serving as representatives of Jesus Christ to those in our community. Together, we have served as indexing facilitators in the county jail. This program allows incarcerated men to digitize genealogical records from around the world giving easier access for those searching for their ancestry. I have a deep interest in family history. Especially, I have focused on my family roots from Denmark. I have learned how to use the Danish archive records and usually am able to read the old handwriting. Recently, along with a new-found cousin, we were able to contact about 400 of the living descendants of our Danish line. This was all done through the marvel of social media. A finale of 150 coming together for a family reunion was very rewarding. Most of us were not acquainted with each other. Now we stay in touch through social media.
