Hi I'm Larry Meshkin

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife, Marie, and I live off the grid in Point McKenzie, Alaska. We heat with wood and make our own electric power. I work at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska for BP.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the Chicagoland area and was raised a Catholic. I fell away and became an atheist. Later I was an agnostic. At the low point in my life in 1974, I prayed for the first time in years. I said "If there is a God, please help me." After that prayer I left Chicago and went to Alaska to get away from my pain. I started working on the construction of the Trans Alaskan Pipeline from Valdez to Prudhoe Bay in 1974. The fall and winter of 1975 I was working on the construction of Pump Station 9 of the pipeline. A fellow we called Skinner from Nevada became one of my working partners. His name was Ed Willis. Ed introduced me to the Gospel of Jesus Christ over a several month period and gave me his personal Book of Mormon. I didn't realize it at the time but I felt the influence of the Holy Ghost as I talked with Ed. It was until later that I learned what the Holy Ghost was. Soon after my talks with Ed, I asked myself what do I now believe about God. I said to myself I could no longer not believe in God anymore after what I had learned from Ed. I choose to acept God into my life and that His Son Jesus Christ died for me. I felt that since God created me that he would know the best way for me to live my life to be happy so I chose to follow Him. Ed couldn't baptize me so I quit my job at Pump Station 9. I went back to Chicago and took the missionary discussions. In Chicago Heights I was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the spring of 1976. That was one and one half years after my prayer to God for help. After I was baptized I went back to Alaska in 1976 and have been working at Prudhoe Bay ever since. The Gospel has become more true to me over the years as I have learned more about it. The fruits of the Gospel are good and it is true.

How I live my faith

I work in the Anchorage, Alaska Temple. I try to tell all who will listen about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If all mankind lived according to the Gospel our world would be a world of peace.

Are Mormons Christians?

Larry Meshkin
I believe that Jesus Christ is the divine Son of God who died to save me from my sins. He is my Savior and I love Him. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is His church and bears His name. Show more Show less
