Hi I'm Brian

About Me

My wife and I, along with our four children, are living in Madison, Wisconsin. I recently began working as an assistant professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Rehabilitation Psychology program. It is a busy time of life with four young children but very rewarding. There was a time when I did a lot of distance running. More recently, the occasional game of ultimate frisbee, biking to work, and playing with my kids have replaced running.

Why I am a Mormon

One of the most influential experiences on my faith came when I was in high school. A respected friend encouraged me to regularly read the scriptures and promised I would experience a positive difference in my life. I took his challenge and in just a few weeks of regular study I felt the positive difference he had promised. After a few weeks I determined to ask God if the things I was reading were true. I received a clear answer to my prayers that came mostly as a feeling. I knew that the recent happiness I had experienced had come as the result of the scriptures and that they were the word of God Now, many years later, I continue to experience the peace and happiness that come from that early choice to read the scriptures. Nothing else has brought me more direction, comfort, and joy. I have come a better understanding of how much God loves all of His children. This helps me not only treat others better but also to have more confidence myself. Finally, now that I have children I am even more committed to my religion because it provides a foundation for raising our family.

How I live my faith

Living my faith, although far from perfect, brings me a lot of happiness. I am grateful that the gospel provides a blueprint for my parenting as well. I try to put the most energy into the things that have the most importance in life. For me this comes down to building relationships with God and with those around me, particularly my family. I have learned over time that I am a better person when I am regularly praying and reading the scriptures. I am more concerned about those around me when I am actively praying and looking for opportunities to help. I love sharing my beliefs with others because of the happiness they have given me.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon, like the Bible, was written by multiple Prophets who lived many years ago. These prophets lived on the American Continent. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Mormons are definitely Christians. Most of my friends outside of the church are surprised when the learn how Christian we are. Christ is the center of our church--our full title being The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. We believe in our church that Jesus Chris is our Savior and Redeemer, that His atonement made it possible for us to be forgiven of our sins and return to live with him. One of my favorite scriptures is John 17:3 where we are taught that eternal life is centered on knowing God and Jesus Christ. As I come to know Him better I become more aware of the great debt He paid for me and the love he has for me and all people. Show more Show less
