Hi I'm David

I'm a volunteer in the Civil Air Patrol, an Astronomer and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Odessa, Texas. I joined the church in March 1968 as a result of a visit by two missionaries. They were walking down the road in December of '67 and we engaged in a snowball fight. This somehow led into a gospel conversation. My family traveled a lot since my dad was a resort developer. I did get to see much of the United States and Canada. I graduated from Ruidoso High School in Ruidoso, New Mexico. After high school, I joined the US Navy in 1978 and served for 20 years. I did two tours of duty during the Persian Gulf War. I am now retired. I have married been married for seven years to Sharon Sturtz. I have three children from a previous marriage and three grandchildren. My interests are reading books on American history, family history and astronomy. I am an Eagle Scout.I stayed with scouting for 43 years. I have been a Scoutmaster, Unit and Assistant District Commissioner and on the District and Council Committees. I have served in various church positions including Ward Executive Secretary, Ward Clerk, Stake Seventy’s President and as a Church Service Missionary. I am a Lt Col in the Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Air Force Auxiliary. Here I volunteer as Ground Branch Director in Emergency Services, a Personnel, Administration and Professional Development Officer.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized when I was 8. I followed the church mostly because of my parents. When I was older, they let me choose if I wanted to go to church. They didn't have to hold thier breath long. I chose to be active in the church. The church has always been there for me and I feel it a great blessing to be a member of the church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through ,and with, prayer every day. Good things happen every day. So will the bad. I know that I can get through the day with my Heavenly Father's help.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

David
Through prayer, reading the scriptures and learning of Him. Just look around. As an astronomer I see HIS handiwork above us. As I have traveled the world I see HIS works around us. Knowing our Heavenly Father to me is a feeling that I get when I know that he is near. Show more Show less
