Hi I'm Cara

About Me

My name is Cara and I grew up in Sandy, Utah. I am a young professional working in Salt Lake City. Although I have lived in the city most of my life I am a farm girl at heart. I just have this thing for fields, fresh air, and cows. Maybe one day I'll have a lot of land. I love being in the outdoors. The Utah mountains are hard to beat. I love boating, hiking, biking, dancing, laughing and spending time with my family and friends. I come from a very large family. There are 9 children. That's right 9! People have asked me what it is like growing up in such a large family and a simple answer is that I don't know what life is like without a large family. I basically get free advice, friends, food, housing and parities all of the time. I love it! There are challenges, but my family relationships are worth any challenge.

Why I am a Mormon

Both of my parents are Mormon so naturally that is the church I went to since I was young. There was a time in my life however, where I needed to know if I really wanted to be a Mormon. I started to ask myself some very hard questions. I decided to test out the process I was taught since I was young about how I may receive an answer from God. After much contemplation, struggles and challenges, studying and praying, I felt that the things my parents had taught me since I was young were right and true. Since then my faith and conviction have deepened. I am so grateful to have the gospel in my life. I’m not sure how I would be able to get through this life without it. Life has so much more meaning. It brings a joy that doesn’t come from anywhere else.

How I live my faith

I think the best way to live my faith is by the way I treat others. I believe that showing love for others is the most important thing we can do. In my ward I am the co-chair of what is called the Fellowshipping Committee. We have so many people moving into the ward and it’s important that everyone feels welcome and knows where to go and who to talk to for information. It’s fun for me to get to know so many people and have the opportunity to make new friends. I also serve as a visiting teacher, which means that I get paired up with another girl in the ward and visit a few other girls in our ward. It’s fun to go and teach them an uplifting message each month and see how they are doing. I feel great inside when I feel like I am helping someone else.

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Cara
This is a really great question. Just as the Bible is a witness that God lives, talks to prophets, and gives instruction for how He would have us live, The Book of Mormon gives a witness of those same things. To me, the Bible shows us the God lives because from the very beginning God is speaking to man and teaching them. The Book of Mormon tells of a history of a people that God spoke to as well. The difference is we believe they were on the American continent; that after Jesus Christ was crucified and resurrected in Jerusalem he came and visited those who were living in the Americas. Pretty amazing right? The reason why we have this record today is because God directed a man named Joseph Smith to find the record and translate it into English so we can have it today. That is also why we believe God continues to speak to prophets in our day. I know it’s a lot to take in and a little different from what most people are used to, but that’s why it was so important for me to find out for myself if what I had been taught to believe when I was young was right and true.
