Hi I'm Duane

I know the Atonement of Jesus Christ is truly real and available to all who desire redemption from their sins and mistakes.

About Me

I live in Detroit, Michigan USA. I work for Ford Motor Company in product development purchasing. I'm married and have 4 daughters. My wife is my best friend and my hero. I'm so blessed to be her husband. She and my daughters are the lights of my life. Of course we have our challenges and daily shortcomings, but in balance I'm extraordinarily lucky to have their companionship and love. I finished college several years ago and am grateful I was able to obtain two formal college degrees. They've greatly improved my quality of life. I have some health challenges that are difficult to manage and slow me down some. But my educational training has allowed me to work and earn a good living. Sometimes the nature of my health issues make it challenging to be happy every day. Turning to my Father in Heaven and to my Savior Jesus Christ for help does improve things. I do this by studying the scriptures every day, including the Bible and the Book of Mormon, and by praying every day as well. My symptoms don't go away, but through their grace I am comforted and strengthened in spirit to live with them.

Why I am a Mormon

First and foremost, I'm a Christian because I know Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are real, and that repentance and forgiveness through Christ's atonement are real too. Jesus is my personal Savior. He has cleansed me from my sins and their consequences, through my exercising faith in Him and completing the repentance process. Receiving redemption and forgiveness through Him from all my screw-ups, both minor and major, is the best thing that ever happened and still happens to me. And I'm a Mormon Christian because this restored gospel of Jesus Christ and all its marvelous blessings are made available to me through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

I do my best to follow the example of Jesus Christ and keep his commandments. I know He is pleased when I put forth my very best efforts. And He and my Heavenly Father bless me according to my efforts and my asking for the blessings I desire. These days, most of my efforts to serve Christ are by serving my young family. Just loving my wife and caring for her well-being, supporting her in raising our young children, and working at my job and career to provide for their support.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Mormon women are wonderful. They are very committed to their families. Most of them are very bright and talented individuals as well. For example, my wife Penny is raising our 3 daughters as a stay-at-home Mom. She is extremely hard-working and is truly my hero for how much effort she puts into each day of her life. Penny is also a terrific writer, and she has a hilarious sense of humor too. Fortunately she's able to still find time to blog online and keep her writing skills sharp. Mormons believe men and women are equal before God and man. Actually, if anything we believe women are God's supreme creation, even better than men. The creation described in the Bible tells that over six days, or stages, the progression of creation was earth, then light, land and water; then plant life and animal life; then man, and finally woman as his ultimate and crowning creation. As the husband of a great woman, and the father of 4 wonderful daughters, I do my best not to ever patronize them or treat them in any unequal way. I've become quite the believer in women's rights and most elements of feminism. I believe the world is far better off for the successes of the women's movement. There are some terrible things in today's world, but I think Dickens said it best: "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." Thank goodness I live in a day and age and culture where patronization of women is not cool. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Yes. The Bible contains the fulness of the Gospel (the essential principles) of Jesus Christ. We love and revere the Bible. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

In all candor, this question kind of irritates me, which is why I chose it. Of course Mormons are Christians! We are followers and worshipers of Jesus Christ. And we accept Him as our personal Savior through his loving Atonement. Duh! The name of our church actually contains his name -- The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints. His name wouldn't be part of the official name of our church if he wasn't central to everything our Church believes. We believe that if we follow the steps of repentance, and come unto Him, humbly asking Him to take the consequences of our sins upon himself, He will do so. His Atonement is what makes this possible. I don't fully understand how the Atonement works. But I do understand that it does work! I've had the wonderful experience of completing the process of repentance, and receiving forgiveness through Christ's Atonement. And this is absolutely the best thing that ever happened to me! So -- Of course we're Christians! We could do a better job of getting the word out, but I anticipate we'll keep working at it until we improve. Show more Show less
