Hi I'm Peter

About Me

I am a mining engineer and an environmental scientist, and love spending time in the mountains. I get to play a part in the development of natural resources needed by society while at the same time making sure that environmental safeguards are met. I am single and preparing for the next stages of my life: a career and hopefully marriage and a family. I have four brothers and a sister. My family are my best friends, even though we are each quite different. I am grateful for good friends from many countries and cultures, and from various walks of life.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in an active LDS home where faith and testimony of God and Jesus Christ were frequently expressed by my parents. When I was 8 years old, I knew that baptism was the right thing for me to do, and knew that I was promising to be good and follow the Savior. I still remember the deep inner warmth and joy that I felt following my baptism. I have had many witnesses of the Holy Spirit to me individually, in my mind and in my heart, that reinforce what I have known to be true since my childhood. My faith in Jesus Christ has grown, and I am learning to forgive and to repent. I want to grow in faith in my Savior that will lead me to continue to obey and repent. I know my Father in Heaven hears and answers my prayers and that He loves me. I know that His Son Jesus Christ is my personal Savior. He willingly paid the price for my personal sins, as well as for those of all mankind - everyone! Joseph Smith is His prophet chosen to restore the Church of Jesus Christ in the last days. The Book of Mormon he translated has brought me closer to Christ. This Church is led today by Jesus Christ through modern-day revelation to a prophet of God. Families are important and are part of God's plan for our individual and collective happiness. As I ponder this, I feel and know, again, the truth of what I am sharing, and I start to realize just how much I love the Lord and His Church.

How I live my faith

I hope and feel that my life is an extension of my faith in Jesus Christ and His Gospel, which enhances everything else I do. Hopefully, how I live my life reflects this most important part of it. I take my job seriously, and try to see it as a way to serve God by serving my fellow man. I find joy in sharing the best part of my life with others, which is the gospel of Jesus Christ. As one of our hymns goes: "Because I have been given much, I too must give..." As a bearer of the priesthood, I get to visit assigned members of my ward with a fellow priesthood holder to "hometeach" (or to share a brief gospel message of encouragement, together with a prayer), and to see how we can help. Privately, I worship by daily seeking a quiet place and hour - usually in the morning or at lunch - to pray and search the scriptures, and to come close to God. Through this "hour of prayer", I find regular direction for my life and answers to my prayers, and a reconnection with the Lord and His Spirit that helps me keep a balance and that can help me know how and who to help. As a family, we study the scriptures together frequently, and I have seen how this increases our unity.
