Hi I'm DeeAnn

I grew up in Arkansas and have also lived in Utah, Indiana and Poland. I am currently a stay at home mom in Texas. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Currently I am a stay at home mom of two wonderful elementary-aged children. In my past, I've been a college student, missionary, and professional. Who knows what my future holds? I enjoy reading, family history, spending time with my husband and kids, talking with friends and serving others.

Why I am a Mormon

Boy, this is a complicated question to answer! One could say I am a Mormon because I was born and raised a Mormon, but that would be an incomplete answer. One could say I am a Mormon because I believe in the teachings of the LDS church, namely I believe that Joseph Smith was a true prophet, that the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price are scripture along with the Bible. One could say that I am a Mormon because I have studied these great books and found them full of light and truth. One could say that I am a Mormon because I have studied many of the criticisms of the LDS church and found them lacking. One could say I am a Mormon because of the many experiences in my life living the gospel and reaping the blessings that come from doing so. One could say that I am a Mormon because I have felt the influence and inspiration of the Holy Ghost/Holy Spirit in my life and I am learning - sometimes more successfully than others - to recognize and follow that Spirit. And one could say I am a Mormon because I have a strong testimony that God wants me to be a Mormon. And each of these would be true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to love and serve others. My main focus right now is my family. I have two elementary-aged children and a wonderful husband. I have enjoyed volunteering in my kids classrooms and helping in other ways at their school. We have regular family scripture study and prayer, regularly sit down together for dinner and try not to over-schedule ourselves so we have time to spend as a family. I especially love visiting women in our congregations in their homes and building friendships of love and support. I think the essence of the gospel is about loving others and our relationships are vitally important to our happiness.

Are Mormons Christians?

I guess it depends on one's definition of "Christian". If one means "someone who believes and has faith in the Savior, his atonement and resurrection, and gospel", then yes, Mormon's are Christian. If one's definition includes extra-biblical criterion such as accepting the Nicene Creed, then no we are not. Ultimately, it's not the label that's important, but the heart and actions of the person. I consider myself a Christian, but if others choose to label my otherwise, so what? Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

There were many people who helped write the Book of Mormon. They were all called and inspired by God and they recorded some of this inspiration so that others could benefit from it. This is very similar to how we got the Bible, .i.e men were inspired by God and recorded that inspiration, which was later compiled into the book we have today called the Bible. The men who wrote the Book of Mormon were prophets who lived on the American Continent. There were 2 groups - one which wrote from approx. 600 BC - 400 AD and another which came much earlier. Mormon was one of the last of those prophets and he took all the writings of the of these prophets and was basically the editor who put the whole book together. Show more Show less
