Hi I'm Shawn

I'm a creative director. A father of ten. And a Mormon.

About Me

My father was an Army officer, so growing up I had the opportunity to move around quite a bit. Now that I have my own family, I'm pretty happy to just stay in one place. I served a two-year mission to Montana — an experience that I've reflected on nearly every day since. The strength and perspective I gained during those two short years has been the foundation for my life. I've been married for 20 years to a truly amazing woman, and we have eight sons and four daughters. I work as a creative director in the advertising industry, and enjoy golf, volleyball, oil painting, and horsing around with my kids every chance I get.

Why I am a Mormon

The world is full of so many competing voices — so many people that claim to know what happiness is and how to find it. I have come to know through personal experience that there is only one source of truth that I can always trust, and that is God. As I've sought the truth in my own life, it has led me closer to Him and His Son, and ultimately, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In the Gospel of Jesus Christ I have found true peace, hope and happiness. That's why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My wife and I take our responsibility as parents very seriously. Our lives are centered on teaching our children about Christ and trying to instill in them values that will help them make good choices in a challenging world. If we can raise them to be kind and honest, and anchor their lives on the Savior, that will be the most significant and worthwhile thing we could ever do.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Shawn
In the Bible the apostle Paul taught that the things of God can only be understood by the Spirit of God. In other words, a testimony of the truth about spiritual things can only be gained from the source of all truth. The most important thing that the missionaries will talk about is how you can find answers for yourself. They will teach you about the basic principles and doctrines of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and then show you how you can read, ponder and seek confirmation of those truths directly from God through the power of the Holy Ghost. They will also help you recognize when the Holy Ghost is letting you know something is true. When I served as a missionary, many people would feel the influence of the Holy Ghost while we were discussing the Gospel with them in their homes. Those were truly wonderful experiences that strengthened my testimony. And the missionaries love questions! Ask them anything you've ever wanted to know about the Gospel or the Church, and they're more than happy to talk about it with you. Show more Show less
