Hi I'm Zach

I grew up in Connecticut. I am a 5th grade teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a husband and father of one. I have been a student for the last 7 years and will continue to work towards a Ph.D. During my free time, I really enjoy playing sports, currently in a soccer league and looking forward to slow pitch softball and basketball leagues. I am an avid reader but am limited to research papers and text books to improve my teaching abilities. I teach 5th grade.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were converts and I was raised as a member. When I was sixteen, I began to save seriously for a two year mission. One day as I was depositing money for this and I questioned whether this was the right thing to do. This question lead me to knealing by my bed asking the Lord if These things were true. I felt an overwhelming warm, tingling feeling which I knew to be an answer to my question. I felt this was much like the two men on the road to Emmaus whos hearts did burn within.

How I live my faith

The Church organization has allowed me to teach youth and adults, assist with the finances, and play and coach sports (mainly basketball). Through these activities I explored the role of Christ in my life and how I am applying those principles I teach. The Christian principles taught have also lead to me to participate in my community through Americorps service, disaster relief clean-up, and volunteerism in soup kitchens and with refugee projects. My understanding of who Christ is and what He has done for all of us motivates me to live my faith in Him through service to others.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Zach
I believe this question to be one of my favorite to discuss because of the mercy and love shown by our Heavenly Father. Christ showed the way back to our Heavenly Father including baptism. I believe baptism by one holding authority (such as John the Baptist) to be a requirement to live in heaven with our Father and Christ. There have been many who have lived on this earth that did not recieve this opportunity. Those many people are now in a spiritual realm and cannot do this for themselves. Christ opened the way for them to recieve the gospel message is the spirit world (1 Peter 3:19) and has allowed a way for them to recieve baptism as well; through us (1 Corthnians 15:46-48). I do not know which one of my ancesters will accept the gospel message on the other side but I will perform the ordiance and everything is up to them whether to accept or not. Show more Show less
