Hi I'm Ellis

I'm a Yorkshire lad... and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm 24 years old and from a city in Yorkshire, called Wakefield. I was raised as a Mormon, as both my parents are members. Looking back, I feel this was a tremendous blessing as now I'm coming to the age where I will in the perceivable future (Yikes!) be a dad to some little ones, I can emulate the great examples my parents were to me as I was growing up. I recently returned from serving a mission for the church in Hungary, a place I have left a little part of my soul. It was a life-changing experience that I'll never forget. Serving others is one of the grandest activities we can do in life. For hobbies I like to fix and build PCs, read books, play football, go travelling and spend time with my family and friends. I'm also a big fan of heavy metal, Dream theater are my favourite band... I've been to see them 5 times now! I like to attend the odd festival in the summer too, if I can afford them that year! At the moment, I currently work for a bank, with an eye to going back to university in the Summer to study a Masters degree in Medieval History. I studied History at university a couple of years ago, so I'm hoping to crack on with that again with the end goal of becoming a university lecturer. One can dream, anyway! I have been a member my entire life, I love this church and my faith. It brings me so much joy and peace. Christ truly is my Saviour, and through Him I can do anything. That knowledge sets me free!

Why I am a Mormon

I want to live with my family for eternity - because of Christ, death is not the end. I know that as I live by the teachings of the Gospel, and follow Christ's example, me and my family will live a full and happy life... something I think everyone searches for in one way or another. I have found over my life, short as it may be, that the pleasures of the world are only momentary. They fade almost as soon as they appear. But with the Gospel I have experienced joy, that deep feeling of contentment and happiness that I have found nowhere else. Faith in Jesus Christ provides me with long term happiness, and promises salvation to all who come unto Him - that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

As we truly come to accept the Saviour as our redeemer, we feel compelled to act upon His teachings and keep His commandments. That's essentially how I live my faith, I try to emulate His life and live how He would have me live. I don't always match up to His expectations, but His infinite love and compassion encourage me to pick myself up, dust myself off, and keep going. Trying to follow Christ is not an easy vocation, but it's one that brings light and hope into my life everyday.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Ellis
The Word of Wisdom is a guideline given to us from our Heavenly Father that instructs us how to phsically and spiritually look after ourselves. It is a set of principles that keep us physically, mentally and spiritually healthy. It was given to the Prophet Joseph Smith to share with the world in order to make it a better and happier place. Some of the advice given in the Word of Wisdom includes refraining from drinking alcohol, probably one of the most well known principles Mormons adhere to, eating healthily and staying away from addictive substances. All of the principles it teaches do help to keep us healthy. As i have lived the Word of Wisdom and put the advice given to the test, i have found that my life has been improved and i enjoy a greater standard of happiness that i am very greatful for. The Word of Wisdom is a blessing given from our Heavenly Father, and i think it would be unwise not to heed his advice. The Word of Wisdom can be found in the Doctrine and Covenants, part of the standard works of the church, in section 89. I would encourage you to search for yourself what it says in that book, i'm sure it will bless your life for the better. Show more Show less
