Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Saviour. Why do we need a Saviour?

  • Over the past year I have become so grateful for my saviour! Not just because He died so that I can be forgiven (although that is very important!) but because He suffered so that He could understand what I am going through and comfort me. Who knows what I'm going through better than Jesus? My Heavenly Brother who took on, not only the sins of the world, but also their sufferings. Show more

  • It was planned that way. We, as individuals who can't identify by ourselves how we got to be here, or where we go after death, are in no position to decide for ourselves how we can be saved. Many of us do decide to make our own rules, but they will not stand when Christ judges us all. It is His plan. He will execute it and no feeble man can change it, or have it his way. Show more

  • Because all men and women are imperfect, we all sin. When we sin, we become unclean and unfit to live in God's presence (Romans 3:23; 3 Nephi 27:19). Heavenly Father loves us and wants us to return to live with him; therefore, he has provided a way for us to become clean, receive forgiveness for our sins, and eventually live in God's presence. This way is through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, who suffered for our sins on the cross and in the Garden of Gethsemane (Isaiah 53:6; Matthew 26:28; Mosiah 14:6; Doctrine and Covenants 19:16). Jesus has provided the way for us to be fully forgiven of our sins, but we must also do our part by asking for forgiveness from God, trying to correct any damage we may have caused, and then committing to forsake our sins and to keep the commandments (Mark 1:15; 2 Nephi 2:7). It is only through this repentance and because of the grace of the Savior that we can be saved (Doctrine and Covenants 58:42). Show more

  • We need a Savior because none of us are perfect. We are all going to make mistakes and sin (which is to disobey the laws of God). We needed a way to overcome our fallen and imperfect state. God sent his Son to provide a sacrifice so that the consequences of our mistakes can be taken from us. The consequence of any sin is seperation from God, and Jesus Christ took that upon himself for us so that we can live with God again. We have to put in our part, which is to excercise faith, repent, be baptized by immersion, recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost, and endure to the end. As we do this, we will be forgiven for our sins, and be able to return to live with God again. Because of this you can "have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal (moroni 7:41)." I knowt that we need a Savior, and I am forever grateful for Jesus Christ, and what he has done for me. Show more

  • Mormons are Christians. We are the Church of Jesus Christ. I need a Saviour. I think one of the biggest reasons I need Jesus Christ is because I make so many mistakes. Whenever I make a mistake I create distance between God and me. God has given us rules in this life to help us to be happy. As we keep these rules we free ourselves from the consequences and sorrow of life. God although, did not want to force us to obey him. He gave us our free agency or ability to choose what we want, because it is our life. Because God knew we would make mistakes, he provided for us his Son, Jesus Christ. Christ sacrificed himself for us and before that he suffered for our sins. Any pain, grief, guilt or sorrow that we go through in life has passed through Christ. He has literally felt everything we feel. I know the horrible feelings that come from making a mistake and through Christ I can be freed from those terrible consequences and feelings of guilt. It sometimes takes time but the more we confess the things we do wrong and take the steps to correct our mistakes, we become closer to Christ. We all need a Saviour. He is one of my greatest friends and heroes. He is the ultimate example of how live our lives. Show more

  • I know when I do something wrong that I feel bad about it. I can tell people I am sorry and try to do better. But I know that I am imperfect. Jesus Christ was the only perfect person to live upon the earth and during that time he took upon himself the sins and suffering of the world. Without him I can never be really clean from my mistakes. Also, I know that I do not have the power to conquer death. After he died he had the power to conquer death and was resurrected. Because of that I will also be resurrected. So Jesus has saved me from physical death and also from a 'spiritual' death that would otherwise come to me because of my mistakes. Show more

  • All of us, capable of making our own decisions, have sinned in some way or another. When we sin, we bring guilt, shame and unhappiness into our lives. We believe that only through Jesus Christ we can be relieved of these feelings and essentially be saved from our sins. We believe that through true repentance, we are not only saved, but are CHANGED; refined and made into a better person more like Christ. However, were it not that Christ willingly sacrificed himself for us, the feelings of relief, being saved, and changing would not be available to us. Show more

  • We need a savior because God is perfect, and so no unclean thing can enter his presence. Because of our personal sins we are all imperfect and thus unable to return to live with God. Christ has suffered the punishment for our sins so that when we repent those sins can be wiped clean. Repentance is essentially humbling yourself and changing so that you do the best you can to not do the thing which you've done wrong again. Show more

  • Jesus Christ makes it possible for us to be forgiven of our sins. We all make mistakes and fall short but because of what Jesus Christ did we can repent and be completely forgiven. He suffered for our sins so that if we repent we can find the peace of forgiveness. Repentance is a path that leads to peace and lasting happiness. When we repent, we change and promise to do better and to follow Jesus Christ. Following Jesus Christ brings peace and happiness. Show more

  • Jesus was sent to the earth to restore the gospel on the earth and that's why he had to suffer because he was carrying all the sins of the people which no mortal man could ever have done. after death he resurrected after 3 days which is where your spirit returns to your body and you become immortal and that means that when Jesus Christ comes on the earth again we will all be resurrected and be made immortal and none of that would have been possible if it hadn't have been for Christ! The fundamental principle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the faith in, reliance upon, and relationship with Jesus Christ. We regard Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world. Everyone on the earth today has made mistakes. All of us have come short of the perfect example that Christ set for us. The problem is the laws of God state that “no unclean personhath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.” (Ephesians 5:5) Because of these laws, we needed a way to be cleansed from these sins and mistakes. God knew that we would fall short of perfection and by His grace he provided us a Savior, Jesus Christ. Being a perfect soul without blemish, Jesus was capable and willing to take upon Himself our sins. Because He paid the penalty for our sins, the atonement, we must take upon ourselves His name to reap the blessings of forgiveness. We do this by having faith in Christ, admitting and repenting of our sins, and being baptized in the true and restored church of Jesus Christ. Show more
